UCR Can’t Cool Nebraska Bats

(March 2, 2008) - The Highlander's dropped their final game of the four-game series at Nebraska, 13-1, in a rain shortened seven inning ball game in Lincoln, NE Sunday afternoon. Junior's Joey Gonzales and Jordan Opdyke each finished with two hits for the Highlanders who fall to 2-7.

Nebraska put up two runs in the first inning, six runs in the second inning, and three more in the third before the Highlanders brought one across in the fourth. The Cornhuskers (5-2) scored six runs off of UCR freshman starter Eddie Orozco before he came out of the game with two outs in the second.

The Highlanders were not able to recover but did pick up a run in the fourth on an RBI single from freshman Tony Nix to bring around sophomore Bryan Horst.

NU recorded 11 hits through the first three innings before finishing with 13 runs on 14 hits and also took advantage of three UC Riverside errors.

Orozco (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing five earned runs, and one unearned, while striking out one in his second collegiate start. Aaron Pribonic (1-0) picked up the win for Nebraska after allowing five hits in his seven-inning effort.

The Highlanders return home to play La Salle on Monday at 3:00 p.m. and San Diego State on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
