(Sept. 27, 2007) - Over
45 teams and 450 runners are expected to compete in the 27th
Annual UC Riverside Cross Country Invitational on Saturday,
September 29th at the UC Agricultural Operations Course in
Riverside.
The women will kick off
the day at 7:30 a.m. as they run the 5,000 meter race. The
men will follow at 8:15 a.m. as they run an 8,000 meter course.
The UC Riverside course
winds through the campus' Agricultural Operations area, a
functional campus agricultural lab, and features 100-year-old
orange groves and eucalyptus trees. The hard-packed dirt course
is 85% flat with a few rolling hills and has several areas
that allow fans to enjoy watching the starts and finishes
of the races. It is located on Canyon Crest, 300 meters south
of Martin Luther King in Riverside, just south of the UCR
main campus.
Competing teams include
UNLV, San Diego State, Big West foes Cal State Fullerton,
UC Irvine and Cal State Northridge as well as squads from
nearby schools like Cal State San Bernardino, Redlands, Cal
Poly Pomona and Pomona-Pitzer.
Results of the races will
be made available on the UCR website (athletics.ucr.edu)
by mid-day Saturday and will be available online at www.flashresults.com/flashwest.
Admission is $5 per person,
with children under eight free. Parking will be available
for $5 at UCR Lot 30 at the corner of Canyon Crest and Martin
Luther King and at the St. Andrew Orthodox Christian Church,
directly across the street from the entrance to the course.
