Nick Paez and sophomore Andrew Cortez finished in a tie for
14th place and the UC Riverside Highlanders placed seventh
overall at the Giustina Memorial Classic Tournament at Trysting
Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, OR Tuesday.
Paez improved from 22nd
place by shooting his second consecutive round of 71, finishing
at one-under 215. Cortez, who started the day in 13th, dropped
one spot with his one-over 73 to finish at 215 as well.
Sophomore Scott Clayton
rounded out the top three, placing in 29th at 221 following
his four-over 76 in the final round.
The tournament, which honors
OSU booster Nat Giustina’s, is being played in a unique
format that pairs the men’s and women’s teams
from each school in a combined competition against the other
schools. Teams play in foursomes that include one male and
one female from each school. In combined play, the Highlanders
men and women finished sixth overall with 1,791 strokes.
