Highlanders Drop Two Games at Palm Springs Tourney

(February 9, 2008) - UC Riverside (1-3) fell to Mississippi State 8-0 and later came out on the losing end of a 4-3 decison to #18 Oregon State in the second day of the Palm Springs Tournment Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Marissa Alvidrex launched her first homer of the season and senior April Murray added two hits for the Highlanders who played with nationally ranked OSU for much of the game. UCR held a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the fourth before OSU tied the game at 3-3 with two runs in the inning. The Beavers then went up 4-3 after picking up the eventual-winning run in the sixth. Senior Christin pitched solid for UCR, holding the Beavers to one earned run on four hits and struck out four.

Mississippi State held the Highlanders to one hit in UCR's first game of the day. Junior Amanda Klimczak suffered the loss after allowing five earned runs in 3.1 innings for the Highlanders.
