Highlanders Drop Game To Notre Dame

(March 4, 2008) – UC Riverside fell 8-2 to the visiting Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-6) in a non-conference match-up at Amy S. Harrison Field Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore designated player Marissa Alvidrez led the Highlanders (7-14) with two hits.

After allowing a Irish run in the second and two more in third, UCR battled back using a two-run third inning of their own. Back-to-back RBI singles by Alvidrez and senior third baseman Kristie Martinez brought the Highlanders to within one, 3-2 after three complete.

Notre Dame later added three runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh to pick up the win. UCR junior starter Stephanie Marshall (2-5) suffered the loss after allowing six runs with only three earned in her 4.1 innings. Brittany Bargar earned the in for the Irish after holding the Highlander offense to six hits and two runs.

The doubleheader with Southern Utah scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled and the Highlanders will next play on Friday against Buffalo in the Amy S. Harrison Classic.
