– UC Riverside won 13-2 over Buffalo in the final game
of the Amy S. Harrison Classic at Amy S, Harrison Field Sunday
afternoon. Junior Katie Curtis and sophomore Marissa Alvidrez
each launched home runs for the Highlanders (10-15).
Playing as
the visiting team, UCR put up a three-spot in the first as
Curtis smacked her second long ball of the season, a two-run
shot to left field to bring home senior Kristie Martinez.
The Highlanders added to their 3-0 lead with four more runs
in the second. Senior April Murray brought the first two runners
across with a two-run triple to left center and give UCR a
5-0 advantage. Two batters later Alvidrez brought Murray home
with her fifth blast of the season, a lined shot over the
right centerfield fence to put the Highlanders up 7-0.
UCR put the
game out of reach with a six-run third inning. Senior Roni
Yee was hit by the pitch with the bases-loaded to bring home
junior Amanda Klimczak for the first run of the inning. After
a Buffalo wild pitch allowed the second run of the inning
to come a cross, Alvidrez walked and Martinez followed with
an RBI single to center. The inning wouldn’t stop there
as Curtis then walked to force home a run and freshman Taylor
Thomas singled to right to bring home two more runs. UCR sent
10 batters to the plate and recorded four hits in the inning
to own a 13-0 lead.
Buffalo put
up two runs in their half of the third but UCR had already
built an insurmountable double-digit lead. Murray led all
players with three hits, three runs scored, and also added
two RBI. Curtis drove in three and Alvidrez picked up two
RBI and also scored twice in the 13-2 rout.
Klimczak (3-1)
picked up the win after the Highlanders scored their highest
run total of the season.
UCR travels
to play in the St. Mary's Invitational in Moraga, CA next
weekend.
