UCR Introduces 2008 Class

(Oct. 4, 2007) The UC Riverside softball team will have seven additions for the 2008 season. The incoming class of student-athletes will include five talented freshmen and two Division I transfers.

Caitlin Marsh, a sophomore transfer from the University of South Carolina was recruited by Head Coach Connie Miner, before committing to USC. The second baseman/outfielder and Capo Beach, Calif. native is according to Miner, “A great left handed batter that can slap or hit for power, she also has great range in the field.”

Another junior Amanda Klimczak tranfers from Boston College. The Pomona, Calif. product, “Has the abilities and the attitude to dominate the hitters she faces in the very near future.” The right-hander won 37 games in her two years at BC with her team advancing to the ACC Tournament each of the past two seasons.

Two student-athletes of the incoming freshmen class have something in common; they’re twin sisters. Brooke and Kameryn Hebenton out of Beaumont High School have many things in common, other than the same birthday. Miner said that both players have speed, power, good hands and powerful arms. Miner also adds on the versatile athletes, “Both players will be challenging for playing time at many positions.”

Freshman catcher Dawn Brodersen played at Desert High School on Edwards Air Force Base before choosing UC Riverside over many other institutions. “The sky is the limit for Dawn, she absolutely loves being here and being a Highlander”, says Miner.

Taylor Thomas, the freshman out of Redlands East Valley High School is known as a very athletic and aggressive middle infielder. Coach Miner looks for Thomas to make an immediate impact to the 2008 team. Miner adds, “She has outstanding hands, great range and a quick release.”

Finally, Milana Johnson, the oufielder/catcher from El Centro, Calif. (Central Union High), rounds out the recruiting class. "Johnson is just now realizing her God given ability, and I’m excited to see what she can do for us in the near future”, said Miner of the talented student athlete.
