Lindsey Knoff (9-6) pitched
her sixth shutout of the season, after allowing four hits,
and striking out three. Jenell Jackson (1-12) pitched a solid
game for the Highlanders, giving up one run on three hits.
The Niners scored the only
run of the game in the first inning, when Arleigh Thorp scored
off a Roxanne Staniorski two-out single. The Highlanders would
threaten the 49er lead in the sixth inning after Jessica Gonzalez
singled to lead things off. After a Jamie Yee bunt single,
which advanced the pinch runner, Angie Castellanos, UCR had
runners on first and second base, with one out. However, Knoff
settled down and strike out the next two batters to get out
of the jam.
