Camps & Clinics Now Accepting Applications
(December 18, 2008)
– Highlanders Head Women’s Softball Coach Connie
Miner announced dates today for the UC Riverside 2009 Softball
Camps. The first All Around Camp is set for Saturday, January
17 and open to all ages. Pitching and Catching Camp is slated
for Tuesday, July 21 and also open to all ages. All Around
Camps will also be held on Wednesday, July 22 (ages 14 and
older) and Thursday, July 23 (ages 13 and under). For

Names Mia Longfellow Assistant Coach
(September 30, 2008)
– UC Riverside Head Women’s Softball Coach Connie
Miner announced today that the team has hired Oregon State alumna
Mia Longfellow as an assistant coach. Longfellow is a three-time,
second team All-Pac Ten honoree (2005-07) and all academic honoree
who graduated with a 3.76 gpa and a double major in education
and human development family science.
Former Assistant Flowers Begins Quest For Olympic Gold
(August 12, 2008)
– The
US Women's Softball Team began its quest for Olympic Gold
on Tuesday, August 12 with an 11-0 victory over Venezuela,
and former Highlanders assistant softball coach Tairia Flowers
got the start at first base for the Americans.
Tantlinger Promoted To First Assistant Softball Coach
(June 18, 2008) –
UC Riverside Head Softball Coach
Connie Miner announced today that Monica Tantlinger has been promoted to the Highlanders
first assistant coach.
“I am excited to have Monica take on this new role as my first assistant coach,” said Miner.
“Monica proved herself to be irreplaceable to me over the last two years. The energy, knowledge,
professionalism and loyalty Monica possesses is exceptional. She is one of the most talented young
coaches I have ever worked with. I cannot wait to get the season going with her by my side.”
Softball Doles Out End Of Season Awards
(June 18, 2008) –
The
UC Riverside Softball Team announced its 2008 award winners
following a record setting campaign that saw the team set
the school mark for Division I conference winning percentage
and tying the team record for conference wins in a season.
Awards were voted on by team members and announced at the
end of year softball team banquet.
UC Riverside Names Greenawalt
Best Teammate
(May 28, 2008) –
Senior catcher Cassie Greenawalt was named the recipient of
the 2007-08 Best Teammate Award. As one of the team captains
on the UCR softball team that set a school record for conference
winning percentage in 2008, Greenawalt led by both her actions
and her words. Her leadership qualities extend from the locker
room, where she made sure teammates kept up with and exceeded
the goals set in their offseason workout regimen, to the classroom,
where she often assisted teammates with their academics.

Earns All-West Region Honors
(May 14, 2008) –
Sophomore DP/P Marissa Alvidrez was named to the All-West
Region Second Team Wednesday afternoon, one day after she
and teammate Christin Songer earned Big West All-Conference
honors. Alvidrez continues to collect accolades after a season
that saw her pace the Big West in batting average (.424) and
slugging percentage (.722) while finishing second in on base
percentage (.517) and OPS (1.239) and third in homeruns (11).

Songer Named All-Big West
(May 13, 2008) –
The Big West Conference announced Tuesday that UC Riverside
sophomore Marissa Alvidrez and senior Christin Songer earned
All-Conference honors for their efforts this season. Songer
was named to the All-Big West Second Team as a pitcher after
finishing conference play with a 1.81 earned run average -
third best in the Big West - and all five Highlanders conference
wins to her credit - sixth best in the league. Alvidrez was
named to the All-Big West First Team as a utility player and
to the Second Team as a DP after a season that saw her pace
the conference in batting average (.424) and slugging percentage
(.722) while finishing second in on base percentage (.517)
and OPS (1.239) and third in homeruns (11).

Season Ends With 5-2 Loss To Cal Poly
(May 10, 2008) –
The 2008 UC Riverside softball season
came to a close Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 loss at Cal
Poly, but Friday's win in Game 1 of a double header guaranteed
the Highlanders the best conference winning percentage in
school history since the move to Division I. Christin Songer
closed out her UC Riverside career as the University's career
leader in wins (31) and strikeouts (292) in the Division I
era.
Highlanders Tie School Record For Conference Wins
(May 9, 2008) –
It took them a little
longer than they probably anticipated but after several near
misses the 2008 UC Riverside softball team (19-36, 5-15) can
finally claim the title of Best Highlanders team in the Division
I era. Cassie Greenawalt went 4-for-4 with 4 RBI in UCR's
8-0 win over Cal Poly in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader giving
the Highlanders five Big West wins on the year and guaranteeing
them the best conference winning percentage in the seven-year
D-1 history of the program.
Marissa Alvidrez Crushes Record-Breaking Home Run
(May 4, 2008) –
UC Riverside sophomore
Marissa Alvidrez smacked her school-record 11th home run of
the season Sunday afternoon, but it wasn't enough for the
Highlanders to take the series finale from Cal State Northridge
as they fell 2-1. It was the fifth one-run loss for UCR (18-35,
4-14) in their last six defeats.

UCR Softball Loses Two Heartbreakers To Cal State Northridge
(May 3, 2008) –
The UC Riverside
softball team (18-34, 4-13) lost two heartbreakers to Cal
State Northridge (20-23, 9-8) Saturday afternoon at Amy S
Harrison Field as the Matadors stitched together seventh-inning
rallies in both ends of the doubleheader to pick up the wins.
Christin Songer took to the circle in Game 1 for UCR and allowed
just four hits in seven innings, but the Highlanders gave
up a single run in the seventh to fall 1-0. In Game 2, the
Matadors scored four runs in the seventh to erase a 3-0 UCR
lead and sweep the doubledip.

Riverside Loses Series Finale To No. 17 Long Beach State
(April 27, 2008)
– The UC Riverside
softball team (18-32, 4-11) lost the series finale to No.
17 Long Beach State University Sunday afternoon, 8-0.
Just one day after dropping two close one-run decisions to
the 49ers, the Highlanders fell behind early giving up three
runs in the first and three in the third while LBSU's Brooke
Turner pitched a no-hitter through three. UCR third baseman
Kristie Martinez broke up the no-hit bid in the fourth with
a two-out double.

Drops Two One-Run Games At Long Beach State
(April 26, 2008)
– The UC Riverside
softball team (18-31, 4-10) traveled to 17th ranked Long Beach
State University Saturday afternoon, dropping two tightly-contested
one-run decisions to the 49ers, 2-1 and 4-3. Amanda Klimczak
got the start in game one for the Highlanders drawing the
unenviable assignment of going against Long Beach State's
Brooke Turner - she of the 0.68 era and the 21-4 record. Klimczak
matched Turner pitch for pitch through six, but the 49ers
plated a single run in the seventh for the win.

Loses Two To CSU Bakersfield
(April 24, 2008)
– The UC Riverside
softball team (18-29) lost both ends of a non-conference doubleheader
Thursday afternoon to CSU Bakersfield (22-21) at Amy S Harrison
Field as a series of defensive lapses cost them in Game 1,
and the team's bats went collectively silent in Game 2.

Drops Rubber Match With UC Davis
(April 20, 2008)
– The UC Riverside softball team (18-27, 4-8)
lost the final game of a three-game Big West Conference series with UC Davis on Sunday and
is currently tied for seventh in the Big West with Pacific. Senior pitcher Christin Songer
had her streak of consecutive scoreless innings snapped at 21 in the first inning as
a defensive miscue and two long balls staked the Aggies to a 5-0 lead before the third out was recorded.
Softball Splits Doubleheader With UC Davis
(April 19, 2008)
– The UC Riverside softball team (18-26, 4-7) split
its doubleheader with UC Davis Saturday afternoon taking the first game 1-0 and dropping the second 7-3.
Senior pitcher Christin Songer extended her consecutive scoreless innings streak to 21
in the first game by throwing seven blank frames in a complete-game four-hitter.
She last gave up a run on March 29 against UC Santa Barbara. Songer now sports a 1.97
earned run average in conference play with 24 strikeouts in 32 innings.
Christin Songer Named Big West Softball PItcher Of The Week
(April 14, 2008)
– The Big West Conference
today named UC Riverside senior Christin Songer the Big West Conference
Softball Pitcher of the Week. Songer took home the award following 14
innings of shutout softball over the weekend, striking out 15 and
allowing just eight base hits in leading the Highlanders (17-25, 3-6)
to a two-to-one series win over Pacific. It was UCR's first conference
softball series win since the 2003 season.

Makes It Two Conference Wins In A Row
(April 12, 2008)
– The UC Riverside
softball team (16-25, 2-6) picked up its second straight conference
win Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader with Pacific
(22-24, 4-4). Christin Songer (7-5) pitched a complete-game
three-hitter in the 2-0 win striking out 10. Pacific took
game two of the three-game series 5-1. The rubber match is
scheduled for Sunday at UCR's Amy S. Harrison Field at noon.

The UC Riverside softball team (15-24, 1-5) ended its string
of 33 consecutive conference losses with a 6-4 road win over

(Oct. 4, 2007) The UC Riverside
softball team will have seven additions for the 2008 season.
The incoming class of student-athletes will include five talented
freshmen and two Division I transfers.

Tricia Adgar was named second team All-Big West and freshman
