Track and Field Continues Assault On School-Records

(February 16, 2008) - The UC Riverside track and field team competed at the Washington Invitational in Seattle, WA Saturday. Sophomore Brenda Martinez qualified for the NCAA Indoor Nationals and also set a school-record with a 9:17.601 time in the 3K.

Many other indoor school-records were set as senior Nemo Simmons ran a 1:52.26 in the 800m, senior Celene Reyes ran the 5000m in 17:39.56, and sophomore AJ Jacobson his 400m race in 49.26, all are school indoor bests. Sophomore Lauren Reid set the school indoor long jump record with a jump of 18-2.50, and the 4x400m relay team (Uchechi Egeonuigwe, Marina Young, Ashley Williams, Tajma Stephenson) set the school indoor record with a time of 3:45.03.

Several lifetime bests were set as well, as Egeonuigwe ran her career-best in the 800m with 2:13.83, senior Lisa Lopez ran a career-best 9:38.18 in the 3000m, junior Danielle Evan achieved her career-best in her 3000m race with a time of 9:41.63, and Reid's triple jump of 39' 05.75" were also a career-high.

UCR will next compete in the All Cal Challenge Cup in Irvine on March 1st.
