Highlanders Fall to Titans, 3-1

(Nov. 8, 2007) – The UC Riverside Highlanders lost a 3-1 (23-30, 30-18, 30-19, 30-17) decision to the visiting Cal State Fullerton Titans in a Big West match in front of 126 fans at the Student Recreation Center in Riverside Thursday.

UCR fell to 6-18 overall and 2-11 in the Big West. Cal State Fullerton improved to 13-13, 7-7.

Fullerton outside hitter Brittany Moore led all players with 22 kills, while Alex Wolnisty added 16 kills. For the Highlanders, senior middle Angie Mitchell had nine kills but did not play in the most of game three and all of game four due to an injury. The Highlanders hit .100 (41-26-150) in the match, while Fullerton hit .299 (70-21-164).

The Highlanders used a balanced attack in game one to post a 30-23 win, but the Titans bounced back to score a 30-18 win in game two and tie the match. Fullerton kept up the attack in game three, posting a 30-19 win.

Game four was close early, with UCR trailing 12-10, but the Titans used a 6-0 run to make the score 18-10. They cruised from there, posting a 30-17 win to take the match.

The Highlanders conclude their 2007 home schedule as they host first place Cal Poly on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7:00 p.m. Prior to the match the Highlanders will honor senior Angie Mitchell.
