Highlanders End Season With Tough 3-0 Defeat

Box Score vs. UC Santa Barbara

(Nov. 17, 2007) –UC Riverside closed out their 2007 season with a 3-0 loss (23-30, 16-30, 20-30) to UC Santa Barbara up in Santa Barbara Saturday night. Senior Angie Mitchell closed out her career with another solid performance, finishing with 10 kills and hitting a team-high .381.

Sophomore Dominique Cowling had a team-high 11 kills for the Highlanders who finish the season 6-21 overall and 2-14 in the Big West.

Brett Quirarte produced game-highs with 16 kills and a .612 hitting percentage for UCSB who finished hitting .280 (50-15-125) as a team. The Highlanders hit .072 (38-28-139) on the night as junior Kimberly McNeal led UCR with 18 digs.

UCR never led in game one as the Gauchos (11-18, 6-10) finished with 20 kills in the game to take the game one victory. The Highlanders were able to grab an early 4-3 lead in game two on one of Mitchell’s three blocks in the match. UCSB then answered with a couple points to regain the lead and later opened up an 18-13 advantage before closing out the game with a 12-3 run. Game three was much of the same as the Gauchos led the whole game and handed UCR their fourth straight defeat.
