“We are very excited to add some height and two more players that are capable of playing in the middle, since we have been playing with no substitutes in the middle since we arrived in Division I,” Head Coach Sue Gozansky said. “They both have great potential and are the kind of players that we need to be competitive in the Big West and build our program.”

UCR finished 6-23 overall and 2-16 in the Big West Conference.

Highlanders Sign Two to NLI

(Dec. 9, 2003) -The UC Riverside Highlanders women’s volleyball team announced the signing of a pair of athletes to National Letters of Intent Tuesday.

The Highlanders inked middle blockers Andralyn “Angie” Mitchell of Highland HS and Ebonie Vincent of Temecula Valley HS, Head Coach Sue Gozansky announced.

Vincent is a 5-10 middle blocker who played both basketball and volleyball at Temecula Valley HS. In 2003 she helped her team reach a first round CIF berth, earning All Southwestern League honors. Vincent, who plans to study medicine, plays for the San Diego Volleyball Club.

“Ebonie has excellent jumping ability and is a remarkable athlete,” Gozansky said. “She comes from an outstanding family, both parents are administrators at RCC, and is very academic.”

Mitchell is a 6-0 middle with outstanding jumping ability from Highland HS in Palmdale. She will be playing with the Santa Monica Volleyball Club.

“Angie is a very competitive player. She is aggressive at the net and is very physical. We hope she will make an immediate impact on the team next year,” Gozansky said.

“Both of these young women are outstanding individuals with great athletic ability. We are excited because they both have great jumping ability and should really impact our middle blocking in the short and long term,” Gozansky said. “We are really excited to have them joining our program and helping our program reach the next level.”

Aaron Adams Hired to Replace Annie Feller as Assistant Coach

(March 17, 2004) - University of California, Riverside has hired Aaron Adams as an assistant volleyball coach, Head Coach Sue Gozansky announced Wednesday. Adams will begin his appointment on March 17, replacing Annie Feller.

“We are happy to be bringing Aaron on board. He will provide a lot of new insight to our program and we are eager to get started,” Gozansky said. “He is an exciting, young coach.

Adams comes to UCR from Paloma Valley HS, where he won the league championship and reached the quarterfinals of the CIF Championships. He is has also worked as the 18 and under coach for Temecula’s Viper Volleyball Club.

A native of New Jersey, Adams earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Brigham Young University and his MBA from Cal Poly Pomona.

Adams succeeds Feller, a star on the UCR volleyball team from 1984-1987 and a former head coach at Santa Clara University. Feller had been on the staff at UCR for two years, assisting in scheduling, fundraising, recruiting and commuting from her home in Northern California to assist in practices.

“Annie understood that for the team to continue in its quest to become a top Big West program that we needed to change the role of her position. We needed to have somebody who could consistently be in the office and be at practice. The distance that she had to travel would not allow her to do this.” Gozansky said. “Her Division I experience really helped the program in the transition to this elite level of competition. She is one of the best coaches in the country. We will miss her.”
