Braveheart Award Presented
To Jillian Del Rosario
(May 28, 2008) –The
Braveheart Award is given to a UCR coach or student athlete
who demonstrates exemplary courage during the academic year
and the 2007-08 recipient is the very definition of courage.
On October 19, 2007 senior midfielder Jillian Del Rosario
went up for a header in a home match against Cal State Northridge,
collided with the Matadors keeper, and was immediately knocked
unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital where it was determined
that she had lost temporary speech and motor control.
The injuries Del Rosario sustained forced her to withdraw
from school as she underwent weeks of intense rehabilitation.
She vowed to return for the team's final home game, Senior
Day, and she did so giving an emotional pregame speech. Del
Rosario also returned to school in the winter taking a full
course load as she was determined to graduate with her class.
She is on track to graduate this spring, earning all As and
Bs in the process, and is currently applying to graduate school.
